Icons of Christ and His mother are always found in Eastern Rite churches. It is simply unthinkable that a Ukrainian church would not have these icons clearly present and in many churches there are a great wealth of icons of Christ and His mother in an abundance of different stylistic forms. In particular, we see icons of Christ as Pantocrator — the great judge and ruler of all things. We also particularly see the Blessed Virgin Mary portrayed as Theotokos — birth giver of God.

However, one cannot discuss icons of Christ without first discussing icons of God in general. Since Christ is one with the Holy Trinity, any discussion of iconography should start with the Trinity.
